What is APICS CPIM?
The CPIM certification covers essential areas of supply chain and inventory management, including aligning supply chains with business strategy, managing risk, and ensuring sustainability. It explores sales and operations planning to balance aggregate supply and demand, as well as demand forecasting and evaluation techniques. The program addresses supply planning through master scheduling, MRP, and capacity planning, alongside supplier and product lifecycle management. It also focuses on detailed production scheduling, inventory planning and control, and distribution strategies such as network planning, replenishment, and reverse logistics. Additionally, it emphasizes quality management, continuous improvement, and leveraging technology to optimize internal supply chain performance.
Certification Exam
When you’re ready—whether you’ve completed a course or finished your self-study—you can
schedule your certification exam. The APICS certification exam is available on-demand year-round
through ASCM’s testing partner, Pearson VUE.
You have two options for taking the exam:
- At a testing center: Pearson VUE has test centers located globally. You can search for a
nearby location when registering. - Online via OnVUE: Prefer to test from home? Simply register and choose the online proctored
exam option through the OnVUE system.
The exam includes 150 questions, and you’ll have 3.5 hours to complete it. A score of 300 out of 350
is required to pass.

Content of the CPIM training
The training consists of 8 modules regarding the production logistics.
For more knowledge about the supply chain and alignment of the supply chain with the business strategy, the following topics are covered in this training.

Preparing for the CPIM exams
Criteria for success:
- Bachelor level or college level of intellectual ability with sufficient experience in operations management
- Good reading skills in English, (the textbooks and the exams are in English).
- The correct study material, i.e. the compulsory APICS CPIM Learning System. (books and online system).
- Preferably some work experience in a production environment.
- Taking/having enough study time for preparation and homework and having an active, participatory attitude during lessons.
- Taking the exam as soon as possible after completing the course.
